Is it still considered a faux pas to wear black to a wedding, or is that chic these days?

The wedding in question is a Vietnamese banquet-type deal, in LA (if that matters). This weekend, though I hadn't gotten around to thinking about what I'd wear until yesterday evening. The dress is a lovely halter top dealy. Does it help if I add a pretty colored shawl?

I suppose I could wear the royal blue cheongsam from laura_md and cybersattva's wedding as well, but am looking for something I can avoid having to iron after a flight.

Or internets, tell me what I should wear.

Yar. I'm switching over to the BCBG wrap dress, which is also black, but with a pattern, and is the most easily packable dress I own, which is good for the small bag carry-on-only flying style.

Strappy black peekaboo toe sandals (with a slight heel, no less!) are a go, as is lipstick. My shawl is a little less than exciting, but should do, and I might see if I can pick up a little costume jewelry on the way out of here.

Now, if the rains will let up long enough for me to fly out of here, we should be more or less set. Thanks, fashion maven!
