Thanksgiving

I love this holiday, even though it's pretty emotionally charged this year.
I'd like to thank my family, who always tries to reach out and care, even though we don't always agree with or understand each other.
And my friends, who have stood by me in a difficult year in which I lost my lover, partner and best friend in one fell swoop. You've comforted me, allowed me to comfort you and celebrate in your joy, cheered me up and let me wallow, mailed me chocolate, understood that I might be fine one moment and a mess the next, and offered me your homes, hugs and love. You are a fabulous, talented and caring mass of folks, and I love you all.
My work, which can be frustrating, also is filled with good, smart and caring people, and provides me with an opportunity to make a difference for the better in Oakland, even though there are never enough resources to do enough good.
I'm thankful to my body and relatively decent health. Even though it sometimes seems like pain just rotates through you, you're strong and moderately resilient. And you just took me on a seven mile hike through the hills above Stinson Beach, which I'm insanely happy I can do again.
I'm thankful for a Thanksgiving that had a goodly mixture of quiet contemplation (hiking with R&S), and quiet and gentle companionable feasting at
wrynathan's. And for the tasty treats: stuffing muffins, veggies and tasty turkey leg, and apple and pumpkin pies, homemade whipped cream and wine.
I'm thankful for a good night's sleep--apparently the formula is to go on a long hike, than hang out with friends and eat lots of pie.
And now to prepare another pie (pumpkin! with bourbon!) for tonight's Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat.
